A new breed of chiropractors is populating the planet! While most of the world views the field of chiropractic health as a natural ‘treatment’ for spinal conditions, like back and neck pain, several of us are building a new understanding for something called spinal hygiene.

Instead of simply caring for pain (which was never philosophically aligned with the origins of chiropractic), we are focusing on the simple fact: you only get one spine.

There are several major universities studying the ‘mind-body’ connection. I’ve been following the Richard Davidson PhD from the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Investigating Healthy Minds for several years. With the support of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr. Davidson has been one of the leading researchers in how meditation improves brain health and has wide-spread influence on well-being.

I love this. In fact, I see this as incredibly valuable research! I’ve been meditating for about 10 years!

But this new breed of chiropractors are trying to keep it simple.

The first system developed in-utero is the brain and spinal cord (the central nervous system). The only system completely surrounded by bone is the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord).

Why the heck would nature do that?

Because it’s the most important structure in the body protecting the most important and delicate tissue in the body. Without the spine, we wouldn’t last very long and, if we did, it would be a miserable existence.

A close personal mentor of mine Dr. Heidi Haavik, director of research from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, has shown over the past 10 years that chiropractic care positively influences brain function.

So every adjustment you receive…

Yes, feels amazing.
Yes, helps with pain.

But in addition to that all of that and way more importantly can heal your body holistically by helping improve that brain-body connection.

During this National Chiropractic Health Month, schedule your next visit with us. If you haven’t been in for some time, we would love to evaluate you and your family and see how we can help you keep your spine healthy for life. It’s the only one you’ve got!
